Steven Gerard Gillenwaters

   Steven Gerard Gillenwaters, 51, of Portsmouth, VA, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth.

   Steven was born in Milton, Florida on May 2, 1970, and was the son of William Elliott Gillenwaters and Marylou Smutny-VonSee Gillenwaters of Chesapeake. A Catholic by faith, he had been confirmed in the Church of the Resurrection. For several years he had worked in the shipping and receiving department of QVC.

   In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Araya Hope Doverspike of Gates, NC, and by his brother, Michael Adrian Gillenwaters (wife, Miranda) of Bremerton, WA.

   A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 18^th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection, Portsmouth. Friends are invited to visit with the family at a reception in the church parish hall immediately following the service.

   A burial service will be held later that afternoon at 4:00 p.m. on the family plot in the Gatesville Cemetery, Court and High Streets, Gatesville, NC. The family will gather at Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, the hour prior to the burial where friends are invited to speak with them and join them for the procession to the grave.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Restoration Fund at the Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703.
