Shirley Allen Crawford Bruce

   Shirley Allen Crawford Bruce, 85, of 1149-6 US 158 West, Eure, NC, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in her home.

   Shirley was born in Yadkin County on June 24, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Jasper A. and Rachel Louise Gabard Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Terry Allen Crawford; her son-in-law, Larry Robert Parks; her sister, Peggy Ward; and by a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Nicole Moore.

   A 1956 graduate of Gatesville High School, she had retired from the Suffolk City School System where she worked in Nutrition and Food Service. Shirley will be remembered by many locally for later working at Family Foods of Gates, Tar Heel Bar-B-Que, and G & D’s Winton Corner Café. She raised her family in the fellowship of Somerton United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Suffolk Women of the Moose.

   Surviving is her daughter, Rebecca Crawford Parks, and her son, Samuel Linwood Crawford, Jr. (wife, Deborah), all of Eure; 8 grandchildren, Pamela, Melinda, Samantha, Elbert, Bryanna, Karlyn, Melissa, and Ryan; 22 great-grandchildren, Tray, Marcus, Victoria, Michael, Alec, Megan, Juliann, Jonah, Isabella, Emelia, Theodora, Rylan, Lacey, Molly, Sophia, Uriah, Sammy, CJ, KJ, Kayla, Cierra, and Aerik; special friends, C.C. Holley and Gertrude Taylor; and her faithful canine companion, “Lady”.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 16^th, at 3:00 p.m. in Eure Christian Church and will be conducted by Pastor Wade Bennett. The private entombment will be at a later time in the family cemetery. Longtime family friend, Greg Casper, will share thoughts and words of comfort for the family at that service.

   Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, or in the church social hall immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
