Ruth Austin Garrett

   Ruth Austin Garrett, 90, of 114 Ridge Road, Ahoskie, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, April 29, 2023 where she was surrounded by her family.

   Mrs. Garrett was born in Bertie County on March 26, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Esther Parker Austin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Norvin Wile Garrett; by her brother, Ted Austin; and by sisters, Leona Hoggard and Hazel Smith.

   Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Among her survivors are her children, Dail Davis (husband, Lewis), Brenda Cote, and Terry Wilson (wife, Pamela), all of Ahoskie; a sister, Jane Futrell (husband, Jimmy) of Murfreesboro; a brother, James Allen Austin of Aulander; and Norvin’s daughters, Lauretta Callies (husband, David) and Elaine Evans, both of Honolulu, Hawaii. Ruth and Norvin shared 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

   In accordance with her wishes, a private service is planned where she will be entombed with her husband in the Garrett Mausoleum at the Ahoskie Cemetery.
