Rebecca Hayes Swanner Wheeler, 90, of Paradise Road, Edenton, NC, died Friday, December 10, 2021 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Wheeler was born in Chowan County on January 1, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Charlie W. and Carrie Perry Swanner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Frank Edward Cox; sisters, Margaret Bunch and Helen Perry; and by brothers, Charlie, Ernest, and Joe Swanner.
A retired secretary, Mrs. Wheeler had worked with Virginia Fork Produce and at John A. Holmes High School. She was a member of the former Albemarle Baptist Church.
Surviving is her family, daughter, Gloria Cox Forehand (husband, Mack) of Edenton; daughter-in-law, Lynn Cox (Frank’s wife) of Winterville; and daughter, Katherine “Kitty” Cox Rollins (husband, Ferrell) of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by her nephew, Charles Swanner. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to any chapter of the American Cancer Society (online at www.cancer.org). This organization is dear to the family for the support given to Rebecca’s son, Frank, when he fought cancer, a battle he lost on July 20th of last year.
