Leitha Chappell Dilday

   Leitha Mae Chappell "Lea" Dilday, 89, of Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021.

   Mrs. Dilday was born in Chowan County on June 2, 1931, one of four children of the late Alpine Dail Chappell. Lea resided in Virginia Beach, VA for most of her life, where she enjoyed a long career in the real estate profession and later volunteered with the Virginia Beach court clerk's office. Other enjoyments in her life included sewing, cooking, gardening, card games, puzzles, and reading.

   In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Dilday; her daughter, Bonita Coons; her son, Eddie Dilday; her brother, Louis Chappell; her sister, Louise Twine; and her granddaughter, Cynthia Davis.

   Surviving are her son, Dan Dilday of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Connie Murden (husband, Wayne) of Hertford; her sister, Ramona Jones of Tyner; four grandchildren, Shawn Coons, Ryan and Kyle Murden, and Samantha Dilday; and two great-grandsons, Ethan and Christian Coons.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Chaplain Davin Phillips. A private burial will be in Happy Home Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service. Masks and social distancing are encouraged.
