Doris Harrell Shingleton

   Doris Kaye Harrell Shingleton, 71, of Reynoldson Road, Gates, NC, died Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in Zuni, Virginia at her daughter’s home where she had been living during her time of declining health.

   Mrs. Shingleton was born in Gates County on February 9, 1951, and was one of six children born to the late Haywood Augustus and Revelle Baker Harrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Roger Shingleton; by sisters, Gloria and Barbara Harrell; and by brothers, Ray and Tony Harrell.

   Many will remember Doris for the many years she and Roger owned the local restaurant in Gates, Doris & Roger’s Kitchen. Her customers were her friends, and she always felt so blessed to have worked side by side with Roger. She was raised in the fellowship of Reynoldson Baptist Church.

   Surviving are her daughter, Melissa S. Walters (husband, Dave) of Zuni, VA; her son, Roger Lee Shingleton of Roduco; her brother, Roy Harrell of Gatesville; four grandchildren, Morrel Shingleton, and Quinton, Preston, and Kayton Walters; and a great-grandchild, Gunner Shingleton.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by her brother-in-law, Pastor Roy Young. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service. The burial will be private in the Reynoldson Baptist Church Cemetery.
