Betty Hassell Eure

Betty Lou Hassell Eure, 74, of 2907 Hwy 45 South, Colerain, NC, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her family by her side on October 21, 2018, at her home.

Mrs. Eure was born in Bertie County on October 25, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Raymond Harrison and Annie Mary Simpson Hassell. Employed with Carolina Telephone for 17 years, she later furthered her education and began a career in teaching. Through the years she taught Pre-K and First Grade classes at Ahoskie Christian School, and C.S. Brown, Rich Square-Creecy, and Aulander Elementary Schools. She loved teaching and valued each child that she taught. Her quote was, “Teach a child as if their life depends on it, because it does”. A member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church, she held dual membership in both the Ahoskie #291 and Harrellsville #99 Chapters of The Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband of over 53 years, Curtis Stallings Eure; her daughter, Mary Ann Howell and husband, Jamie, of Como; her son, Raymond Curtis Eure and wife, Nicole, of Harrellsville; two sisters, Rebecca Godwin and husband, Ben, of Cofield, and Thelma Vann and husband, Thomas, of Eure; and three grandchildren, Carter Eure and special friend, Chloe Dunn, Reagan Howell, and Reese Howell, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Christian Harbor Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Joe Futrell. Burial will follow in the Harrellsville Cemetery. The family will received friends Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the church, and all other times at the residence.

In accordance with her wishes, flowers are welcomed, or contributions in her memory may be made to Christian Harbor Baptist Church, in care of Sheila Stallings, P.O. Box 326, Harrellsville, NC 27942. Another request Betty included in her arrangements, was that those attending her funeral wear something red, as it was her favorite color, and the color of the blood of Jesus Christ that saved her from her sins.

Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is handling arrangements, and online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
