   Alan Keith “Paint Bucket” Sawyer, 63, of 801-A West Queen Street, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in his home where he was cared for by his family.

   Alan or “Paint Bucket” as all his friends knew him, was born in Chowan County on December 8, 1959 and was the son of the late Sam Lloyd and Matilda Wright Sawyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Sawyer; and by a brother, Ronnie Sawyer.

   Employed as a residential and commercial painting contractor, he was a member of First Christian Church and Post #40, Sons of the American Legion.

   Surviving is his wife, Bobbie Jean Bateman Sawyer; sons, Marty Bunch (Julie) of The Outer Banks, Brian Bunch (Stacie) of Suffolk, VA, and Jesse Hobbs (Denisha) of Elizabeth City; his sister, Judy Sawyer Dean (Mike), and his brother, Jack Sawyer (Diann), both of Edenton. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jared, Jayden, and Dexter.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 201 E. Water Street, Plymouth, NC 27962.
