Roger Franklin Riddick, 69, of 391 Spivey Road, Hobbsville, NC, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in his home.
Mr. Riddick was born on October 22, 1948, in Suffolk, VA, and was the son of the late Thomas Blanchard and Myrtle Stallings Riddick. After farming for many years, he later retired from Amadas Industries in Suffolk. A member and deacon of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, he was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a niece, Robin Riddick Blanchard; and by his wife, Nancy Reed Winslow Riddick, who died on August 4, 2013.
Surviving are a sister, Merle Kay Blanchard and husband, Paul; and a brother, Emmitt Riddick and wife, Polly, all of Suffolk; and a niece, Carrie Purser, and two nephews, Andy Riddick and Lee Blanchard, and their families. Also surviving are Nancy’s sons, Jason Brian Winslow, Jonathan Bradley Winslow, and Brandon Reed Winslow. Together Nancy and Roger shared two grandsons, James Harvey Winslow and Lucas Reed Winslow. Roger also leaves a special friend, Nellie Sawyer of Hertford, who also provided care and comfort in his time of declining health.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Gary Nistler. A private burial will follow in the Riddick Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.
