    William Douglas McPherson, Jr., 81, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

    Mr. McPherson was born in Camden County on November 23, 1943, and was the son of the late William Douglas “Bill” Sr., and Ruth Evelyn Kight McPherson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dianne Matthews McPherson, and by a brother, C.H. McPherson.

    Retired as a truck driver from Crossroads Fuel Service, he was an Army veteran.

    Surviving is his daughter, Kimberly Powell (husband, Lee) of South Mills; a brother, Ronnie McPherson (wife, Pam); a sister-in-law, Linda Weeks, both of Elizabeth City; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

    Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.

    Memorial contributions may be made either to the SPCA of Northeastern NC, 102 Enterprise Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909, or to any chapter of the American Heart Association.
