MSGT William Edward “Bill” Cox, Jr., US Air Force, Ret., 66, of Heritage Point Drive, Edenton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Born in Parkersburg, WV on September 5, 1952, he was the son of the late William Edward, Sr. and Madge Murel Deems Cox. A 20 year veteran having served from 1971 to 1991, one of his most significant periods of service included his participation in the military action with the Army as part of an Air Force Mobile Communications Unit in Honduras in 1986. After his retirement from the military, he served nearly 25 years as a government contractor in support of national classified programs. Upon his move to Edenton, he enjoyed membership in St. Anne Catholic Church, and as a social member of The Links at Mulberry Hill.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Beate Oechsle Cox; his son, Scott Cox and wife, Brianna; three grandsons, Garren, Bryson, and Gavin, all of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Barbara Jean Dowler and partner Mike of Parkersburg, and Brenda Jo Stone and husband, Jonathan, of Vine Grove, KY; a brother, Robert Miles Pinnix and wife, Terri, of Dublin, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church, and will be officiated by The Rev. Carlos Arce. Friends may join the family Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
A service will be held Friday, February 15, 2019, at 2:45 p.m. in the Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA. Burial with full military honors will follow in Arlington National Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, there will be a reception in nearby Patton Hall, 214 Jackson Avenue, Fort Myer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, P.O. Box 422, Edenton, NC 27932.
