William Henry "Bill" Carter

   William Henry “Bill” Carter, 76, of 429 Rooks Road, Gates, NC, died Monday, April 1, 2019.

   Mr. Carter was born in Norfolk, VA on November 14, 1942, and was the son of the late Richard Cohan, Sr. and Gracie Virginia Flora “Moochie” Carter. A retired owner and operator of a commercial flooring company, he was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and crabbing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Overby, and by a brother, Richard Carter, Jr.

   Surviving are his four sons, Billy Joe Cates and wife, Keri, of Gates, Kenneth P. Carter and wife, Sandra, of Chesapeake, VA, Jamie M. Carter of Hardy, AR, and Hank Carter of Byhalia, MS; a daughter, DeDe Ward of Byhalia; two sisters, Denise Balance and Diane Vogel, both of Virginia; 16 grandchildren, Carly, Payton, Justin L., Ryan, Logan, Jordan, Justin R., Kaylin, Carter, Araya, Brooke, Joshua, Madison, Kayla, Cody, and Dakota; and two great-grandsons, Chancellor and Lucas.

   A private graveside service will be held in the Parker Family Cemetery, Gates. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
