William Smith “Bill” Norfleet, Jr., 87, of 411 North Main Street, Roxobel, NC, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 in his home.
Mr. Norfleet was born in Bertie County on February 6, 1932, and was the son of the late William Smith, Sr. and Sally Cora Eason Norfleet. A graduate of Patterson Episcopal School in Lenoir, he was a farmer having owned and operated Norfleet Farms until age 86. A member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, he also owned Norfleet Hunt Club. He was a proud Army veteran having served in the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Harrington Norfleet after 68 years of courtship and marriage; and by sisters, Sally Cora Brown and Margaret Andrews “Peggy” Norfleet Poston.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jeanne Norfleet Brinkley and husband, Ralph; two granddaughters, Jenny Vaughan (Bill) and Amy Roberts (Josh); two great-grandchildren, Lil’ Bill and Katie; a special niece, Dana Wiggins (Jim), and several other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and will be conducted by the Rev. Greg Hurdle. Burial with military honors will follow in the Norfleet Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 91, or to Roxobel Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 54, both in Roxobel, NC 27872.
