Wendy Jo Umphlett Chappell

   Wendy Jo Umphlett Chappell, 41, of 819 Cannon's Ferry Road, Tyner, NC, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 in her home where she was being cared for by family.

   Born in Chowan County on August 21, 1979, she was the daughter of William Aaron, Jr. and Debra Kay Spruill Umphlett. A homemaker, she grew up in the fellowship of Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Lucy Tarkington Spruill, and paternal grandparents, William Aaron, Sr. and Kathryn Mizelle Umphlett.

   Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband of three years, David Theodore "Teddy" Chappell, Jr.; three children, Morgan Marie Umphlett of Belvidere, and Clarence "C.J." Brinkley and Abby Elaine Brinkley, both of Tyner; a sister, Amy Davunt of Edenton; a brother, William "Billy" Umphlett, III of Cameron; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

   A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Outdoor Tabernacle of Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, and will be conducted by Pastor Danny Gurganus. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. No formal visitation is planned, however friends may visit with the family immediately following the service, and other times at the residence. Masks and social distancing measures are encouraged for those attending.
