Ronnie Edwards

 Walter Ronnie Edwards, 80, of 652 West Millpond Road, Roper, NC, died Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in ECU Beaufort County Hospital, Washington, NC.

 Mr. Edwards was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 18, 1944, and was the only child born to the late L.M. Edwards, Jr. and Pearl Twiddy Edwards.

 A graduate of North Carolina State University, he had retired as a maintenance superintendent with Weyerhaeuser Corp. in Plymouth after 33 years of employment. In earlier years, during the Vietnam era, he worked with defense contractors in the war effort, first in Florida with Pratt & Whitney, in Texas with General Dynamics, back in Florida at Cape Canaveral, and lastly with Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. in Virginia.

 A faithful member of Roper Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, on the Building & Grounds, Finance, and Nominating committees, with Vacation Bible School, and with the Baptist Men. Community service included his work with the Albemarle Food Drop.

 Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Alice Freeman Small Edwards, and their children, Melanie Brooke Edwards of Roper and Michael Todd Edwards (wife, Laura) of Tobaccoville; and two grandchildren, Cameron Parker Edwards of Tobaccoville and Rachael Elizabeth Fulk (husband, Aaron) of King. Also surviving are extended family members from both the Edwards and Small families, and many, many friends.

 Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21st, at 1:00 p.m. in Roper Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. Howard Simpson. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton. Friends may visit with the family in the church immediately following the service, or other times at the residence.
