On Monday, August 9, 2021, Toni LeClair Ellis, of Moyock, NC, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully in her home at age 84.
Toni was born on August 21, 1936 in New York, NY to Edward and Harriet Phelps LeClair, and was raised in Massachusetts with her brother, Bruce, and her sister, Muriel "Mimi" Beveridge, all of whom have preceded her in death. On October 24, 1953, she married Richmond Bryant Ellis.
Over the next 22 years they raised three sons and a daughter while crisscrossing the United States in the service of the United States Marine Corps. As a devoted military wife, consummate mother, and business partner for 27 years she met every challenge head on. She loved to bake and cook, read, had many other hobbies, and was an avid movie fan. Not to mention, she also made the best chocolate chip cookies ever. Ruth Wakefield (inventor of the Toll House cookie) was her Sunday school teacher and baby sitter.
Toni is survived by her husband, GySgt. Richmond Ellis, USMC (Ret.), and her proudest legacy, her four children, Richmond, Terri, Rand and Ross, her four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ellis home.
