Thomas Ashley Stewart

   Thomas Ashley “Tommy” Stewart, 73, of 384 Silver Springs Road, Sunbury, NC, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 in his home where he was being cared for by family.

   Mr. Stewart was born in Portsmouth, VA on August 22, 1950, and was the son of the late William “Bill” and Alice Way Manning Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Stewart, and by a son-in-law, Gregory Winslow. A retired sheet metal fabricator with the Local 100 Union, he was a former member of Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department.

   Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Donna McElroy Stewart; a daughter, Misty Winslow Heaton (husband, Shawn) of Graham, TX; four sons, Thomas Stewart, II (wife, Rebecca) of Newport, OR, and Christopher, Jeremy, and Matthew Stewart, all of Sunbury; 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Tiffany, Anthony, Kyra, Carynn, Gabriel, Rhylee, Ryan, Jordan, and Abigail; and a great-granddaughter, Mailie.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Beulah Baptist Church and will be conducted by The Rev. Greg Jernigan. Burial will follow in the Winslow Family Cemetery in Hobbsville.

   Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
