Thelma Casper Harrell Hobbs, of 161 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville, NC, and a former longtime resident of Ahoskie, died Monday, April 29, 2024, in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.
Mrs. Hobbs was born in Gates County on September 19, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Clinton and Fannie Monds Casper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Harrell; by her brother, Wilbur Casper; and by a step-daughter, Tamara Hobbs.
A retired Preschool and Pre-K teacher with Ahoskie Christian School & Day Care, she had been a member of Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church while living in Ahoskie, and since moving to Gates County after marrying Donald Hobbs, had joined the membership of Damascus Christian Church.
Surviving is her husband, Donald Hobbs; two daughters, Kathy Harrell (husband, Steve Simmons) of Ahoskie and Anita Brown (husband, Joe) of Powellsville; a sister, Christine Hollowell of Eure; five grandchildren, Stacy (friend, Chris), Kevin (wife, Catherine), Brad (wife, Latoria), Karen (husband, Eric), and Megan (husband, Aaron); and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Donald’s son, Chuck Hobbs (wife, Cyndi) of Asheville and their family, Jordan (wife, Destanie), Hatti, Casey, and Dakota (wife, Alexandra).
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 5th, at 3:00 p.m. in Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church, and will be conducted by the Rev. Wallace Phillips. The burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville. At other times the family will receive friends at her grandson Kevin and wife’s Catherine’s home, 140 Morris Road, Ahoskie. The family wishes to recognize them, not only for opening their home now, but also for having Thelma live with them these past several months and being her primary caregivers during her period of declining health.
