Thelma Gray Pierce Chesson, 91, of Roper, NC, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation, Edenton.
Mrs. Chesson was born in Bertie County on October 21, 1930, and was the daughter of the late William P. and Minnie Luther Asbell Pierce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon A. Chesson; a daughter, Debra C. Hopkins; a son, Larry Gray Chesson (wife, Undine, deceased); and by her siblings. A homemaker and a jewel of a mother, she was a member Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving is her daughter, Freda Chesson Phelps (husband, Charles) of Creswell; a son-in-law, Blaine Hopkins of Gum Neck; four grandchildren, Natalie, Nicole (husband, Justin), Erik, and Emilou (husband, Danny); and two great-granddaughters, Celeste and Savannah.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1633 Pea Ridge Road, Roper, and will be conducted by Pastor Charlie Weaver. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service on Sunday. A private entombment will be held in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Elizabeth City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Piney Grove F.W.B Church, in care of Mary Ann Rodrigues, 296 Breezy Banks Road, Roper, NC 27970.
