Teressa Mae Winslow Smith, 100, of 445 Bagley Swamp Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018, in Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Smith was born in Perquimans County on January 12, 1918, and was the daughter of the late James Harrison and Alma Mae Winslow. A homemaker, in earlier years before marriage, she had clerked at the former Pender's Grocery Store on Main Street in Hertford. She was a faithful member of Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Winfred Smith, Sr.; her sister, Evie Stallings; and by her brother, Alton Winslow.
Surviving are her son, Lewis W. Smith, Jr. and wife, Gail, of Hertford; two sisters, Faye W. Lassiter and Eloise W. White, both of Belvidere; two grandsons, Curtis Whitehurst (Kendall) of Carova, and Martin Whitehurst (Kim) of Columbia; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Mason Whitehurst, and Brooklyn and Cody Taffer; and a great-great-grandson, Easton Taffer.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. James Spaugh. Friends may visit with the family in the vestibule of the church immediately following the service, and a graveside service will be in the Bagley Swamp Cemetery following the visitation. At all other times the family will receive friends at Lewis and Gail's home, 127 Smith Cove Road, Hertford.
