Talmadge Lee McGuire

   Talmadge Lee McGuire, 74, of 224 Jordan Loop Road, Tyner, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from his home where he was surrounded by his family.

   Mr. McGuire was born in Norfolk, VA on February 20, 1949, and was the son of the late Talmadge Eugene and Louetta Crutchlow McGuire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Ron Scott and Mackey Carter.

   A retired produce manager with Farm Fresh following 36 years of employment, he was a member and deacon of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church where he had taught the Men’s Sunday School Class and sang in the choir. His passions included music, singing, and talking about God and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, and woodworking. A proud US Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War, his service awards included the National Defense, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, and Army Commendation medals.

   Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Betty Lou Wiggins McGuire; a daughter, Joy Renee Lee (husband, Thomas) of Tyner; a son, Talmadge Preston “Buddy” McGuire of Virginia Beach, VA; a grandson, Noah Branch of Lynchburg, TN; two sisters, Linda Scott of Norfolk, VA and Mary Carter of Petersburg, VA; two brothers, Gene McGuire (wife, Barbara) of Snellville, GA and Bobby McGuire (wife, Sharlyln) of Virginia Beach; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Junior White. Friends may visit with the family on the front lawn of the church immediately following the service on Monday. A private burial with military honors will be held in the church cemetery.
