Sterling David Baker, 50, of 742 Macedonia Road, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville.
Sterling was born in Hertford County on October 20, 1971. A graduate of John A. Holmes High School in Edenton and later from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering, he was the Division One Engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. A member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the Chowan County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, he was an avid collector of comic books and Lego building systems.
Preceded in death by his father, David L. Baker, he is survived by his wife of nearly seven years, Elizabeth Mumm “Liz” Baker; his mother, Jeanette Nixon Baker of Edenton; and his sister, Heather Koon of Clayton. His extended family includes Liz’s six siblings, and 22 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. Chris Gravning, and by his longtime friend and co-worker, Elder Anthony Roper. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page. Friends may visit with the family in social hall immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
