Shirley Reitmeyer

   With profound sadness we announce the passing of Shirley May Reitmeyer, our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all whose life she touched, on Sunday, November 10, 2019. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her home in Hertford, NC, while in the loving care of her son, at age 82.

   Shirley was born in Greenville, SC on July 22, 1937, and was the daughter of the late William A. Powell and Bernice Saxon Lunsford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, William Darley and Richard Reitmeyer.

  She will be deeply missed and is survived in her legacy by her dearly loved children, William Darley of Ware Shoals, SC, Virginia "Gini" Hammond (Charlie), of Riegelwood, NC, and David Darley of Hertford, NC; four step-children, Carolyn Cunningham (Shirley), Linda Sawtell, Barbara Giuliano, Bobby Reitmeyer (Lee); a sister, Martha "Crewy" Looper of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Billy (Jennifer), Chris (Deborah), Ashley, Zachary, Adam, and Nicole (Mark); and nine great-grandchildren.

   Shirley was a lady with true class and beauty. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends, all whom loved her dearly. Her tenacity, wit, charm, and undying love and care for them will never be forgotten.

   A memorial service will be held at a later date. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
