   Seymour Simon “Skip” Sperber, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 1, 2024 in Hertford Health and Rehabilitation.

   Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Mac Sperber and Celia Harrison Sperber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy, his wife and best friend, Janet Tyson Sperber, and by stepson, Kerry Wayne Felty.

   At the age of 7, Skip’s family relocated from New York to Tulsa, OK. Upon graduation from Tulsa Central High School in 1957, he enlisted in the Navy and was a Vietnam War veteran. Following 10 years of service, he was honorably discharged in 1967. In 1985 he enlisted in the Air Force and served with the Red Horse 203rd Division in Virginia Beach, VA until he retired in 1995. In 2000 he and his wife, Janet, moved to Anchorage, AK where he worked as a teacher’s assistant, volunteered at the Fisher House, and was an active member at the synagogue. Skip loved to travel and experience new places. He never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting and talking to new people. He was a true gentleman.

   Surviving are his three sisters, Roslyn Cohen of Ashburn, VA, Leona Lange of Cedaredge, CO, and Estelle Goodmon of Tigard, OR; three children Angel Channell, Richard W. Sperber (wife Amy), and Cheryl DiCicco; three stepchildren, Kathy McGuinness (husband Blair), Kelly Felty (wife Stacy) and Kevin Felty (wife Celia); a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Ozo Felty; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as many dear friends and extended family members.

   A private graveside service will be held by the family on Friday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery in Hertford, NC. May he go to his resting place in peace.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Fisher House, in honor of Seymour “Skip “ Sperber, online at www.fisherhouse.org.
