Sandra White Hernandez went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 25, 2024. She died peacefully at her home in Middletown, DE.
Sandy was born December 19, 1939, in Colerain, NC to parents William J. and Lois Barrow White. She graduated from Edenton High School, now John A. Holmes High School, and went on to raise three children. She retired from the Newport News Shipyard in 2001 after a 20-year career where she met her husband Benjamin G. Hernandez of Corsicana, TX. They had been married for 44 years.
Surviving is her husband, Benjamin G. Hernandez; three children; Phillip J. Scalzi (Sharon Scalzi) of Newark, DE, Barb Scalzi (Thomas A. Hahn) of Middletown, DE, and Patrick J. Scalzi of Woodbridge, VA; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her brother, William B. White of Virginia Beach; nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins in the Barrow family in the Edenton area.
Sandy had an eclectic taste in music including jazz, country, and the crooners of the 50’s and 60’s. She loved fine food, was an exceptional cook, and created beautiful flower arrangements among her many talents.
She worked tirelessly to support her family and ensured they lacked no opportunity to experience life’s best. Fun loving and adventurous, she will be sorely missed.
Sandy faced death bravely, persuaded that Christ would welcome her into His glorious presence. She placed her trust in Christ’s finished work on the cross at Calvary - on her behalf and for all that would believe in the name of Jesus.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, March 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery where near her parents she will wait for the redemption of the body as Christ has promised. John 5:28-29. Friends may visit with the family at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the procession to the grave.
