Russell D. Chappell, Jr.

   Russell Dewey “Russ” Chappell, Jr., 69, of 243 Riverwood Drive, Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, June 3, 2024 in his home where he was being cared for by family.

   Mr. Chappell was born in Chowan County on December 17, 1954, and was the son of Kathleen Byrum Anderson of Hertford and the late Russell Dewey Chappell, Sr. Retired as the Service Manager with the Perquimans County Water Department where he had been employed for over 30 years, he also owned and operated Sportsman’s Taxidermy for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he especially loved to hunt and fish.

   Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife of 12 years, Vickie Lee Smith; a daughter, Ashley Hall (Kurt) of Raleigh; two sons, Joshua Chappell of Washington, D.C and Shane Chappell of Wilmington; NC; his two “bonus” daughters, Morgan Collins of Raleigh and Katelyn Haskett (Hunter) of Hertford; two brothers, Roger Chappell of Hertford and Rodney Chappell (Michelle) of Hot Springs, ID; and two granddaughters, Cayleigh Brown and Maddie Hall.

   A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by the Rev. Ben Bunch. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Albemarle Commission, 512 S. Church Street, Hertford, NC 27944, and designated for Area Agency of Aging.
