Ray Alexander

   Rufus Ray Alexander, 84, of 140 Bethel Fishing Center Road, Hertford, NC, died Monday, August 31, 2020 in Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation.

   Mr. Alexander was born in Chowan County on September 1, 1935, and was the son of the late Charlie S. and Mildred Adele Twiddy Alexander. A retired freight truck driver, he had received Safety Awards for over 3 million miles of accident free driving. A member and deacon of Snug Harbor Community Church, he had served in the North Carolina National Guard, the US Air Force, and the US Coast Guard, having been involved in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Gray.

   Among his survivors are a son, William Ray “Billy” Alexander; a sister, Marjorie Ann Rea; a brother, Earl Alexander; and other extended family members.

   A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held Tuesday, September 8th at 10:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Don Carter.
