Roy Victor Thompson III, of 301 South King Street, Windsor, NC, died Friday, December 1, 2023 in his home where he was cared for by his girls.
Roy was born in Bertie County on August 20, 1966 and was the son of Faye Johnson Thompson of Windsor and the late Roy Victor Thompson, Jr.
A graduate of Atlantic Christian College with a Bachelors in Business Administration, he had been employed at Jimbo’s Jumbos in Edenton since 1999 where he served as the company’s Industrial Plant Manager. He loved his work and his co-workers, often referring to them as family. Outside the plant, he enjoyed working in his yard and everything outdoors, decorating for Christmas, music, his faithful canine companions, Murphy and Jack, and was always concerned and faithful to the wellbeing of his mother and aunt. Baptized in Cashie Baptist Church, he loved that his yard joined that of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where he often walked among the graves and sat in its gardens.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters, Hayden Thompson Glenn (husband, Dixon) of Rocky Mount and Anne Gray Thompson of Windsor; their mother, Stephanie Overton Thompson, also of Rocky Mount; and his aunt who he often said was like his second mother, Jean Johnson Pierce (husband, Melvin, deceased) of Windsor. Also surviving is his sister, Martha Ellen Thompson of San Antonio, TX.
A gathering for friends and family will be Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. At other times the family will receive visitors at his home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 (online at www.pancan.org/donate), or to Lustgarten Foundation, 415 Crossways Park Drive, Suite D, Woodbury, NY 11797 (online at www.lustgarten.org), both organizations that specifically fight Pancreatic Cancer.
