Robert Donald Williams

   Robert Donald "Bob" Williams, 72, of Point Harbor, NC, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Chesapeake, VA.

   Bob was born the fifth son of Esther Marcy Crocker Williams and Henry William Williams on September 26, 1946 in Greenport, Long Island, NY. He married Susan Vossler on November 26, 1976. Surviving along with his wife are his son, James Shannon Williams of Point Harbor; a daughter, Sarah Marcy Williams Sharp of Allen, MD; two grandchildren, Braeden and Alexandra Sharp; three brothers, Wayne Williams (Marlene), Thomas Williams (Shirley), and Mark Williams (Mary Ann); two sisters-in-law, Helen Williams and Rose Williams; as well as six nieces, three nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are Bob's mother-in-law, Patricia Vossler; a sister-in-law, Sally Vossler Wright, two brothers-in-law, Daniel and Jonathan Vossler and their wives and children.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Henry Williams and Jerry Richard Williams; and his father-in-law, Thomas Vossler.

   Bob grew up fishing and sailing on Long Island Sound and being active in all sports. He met Sue at Minnewaska Resort where they both had summer jobs. A graduate from Cornell University with a degree in Agro-Economics, he held several jobs along his life’s path. He was a ranch hand out west, a private detective in Miami, a secondary math and science teacher in Jeffersonville, NY, worked on a scallop boat out of Wanchese, NC, and trained as a Branch Manager at Albemarle Savings and Loan. A businessman by formal education, Bob finally chose a simple path on the water. As a commercial fisherman by choice for over 30 years, Bob enjoyed living simply and cherished being outdoors. An environmentalist at heart, he never strayed too far from the beauty of our world around him. He was devoted to his church, family and friends. His greatest joy was being a husband to Sue, father to James and Sarah, and grandfather to Braeden and Alexandra.

   A Celebration of his Life will be held on Thursday, April 11, at 11:30 a.m. at Hebron United Methodist Church, Jarvisburg, NC, with the Reverend Dawne Hollis-Custer officiating. Interment will be private.
