Robert Alvah Wiggins, Sr.

 Robert Alvah Wiggins, Sr., 88, son, husband, father, Poppa, and friend to all, of 405 Yellow Hammer Road, Tyner, NC, died Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in his home where he was cared for by his family.

 Mr. Wiggins was born in Gates County on April 5, 1936, and was the last surviving child born to the late Robert Graham and Sarah Elizabeth Spivey Wiggins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, five brothers, his daughter, Barbara Cobb, a grandson, Kenny, and a great-grandson, David.

 Employed with Edenton Cotton Mill until suffering a stroke 30 years ago, that disability caused a long retirement, but provided the “silver lining behind the cloud” that enabled him to have so much time with his family. He would be the very first to tell you that “he loved them all, each and every one”.

 Surviving is his wife of over 60 years, Jean Wright Wiggins; two daughters, Norma Bass of Edenton and Patricia Pickell (husband, Doug) of Hertford; a son, Robert A. “Bobby” Wiggins, Jr. (wife, Betsy) of Edenton; an aunt, Hazel Bass of Hobbsville; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Christy, Ashlie, Joy, Robert, Ryne, Meredith, Halie, Adam, and Chase; and 13 great-grandchildren, Kolton, Layla, Bryson, Marissa, Ben, Levi, Taylor, Graham, Garrett, Myles, Mary, John, and Hannah.

 A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Ricky Browder. Friends may visit with the family at the residence.
