Robert Ray Griffin, Sr., 87, of 213 Hawthorne Road, died Saturday, March 1, 2025, in ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, Washington.
Mr. Griffin was born in Chowan County on November 30, 1937, and was the son of the late James William “Jim” and Karene Toppin Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Perry, sisters, Delsie Dail and Gladys Griffin, and by a brother, Alma Griffin.
A retired truck driver from Estes Trucking Company, in earlier years he had been employed in law enforcement as both a police officer with the Edenton Police Department and later as a Deputy with the Chowan County Sheriff’s Department. He had served in the North Carolina National Guard.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Jacqueline Courtney “Jackie” Griffin; his son, Robert Ray Griffin, Jr. (wife, Doris Ann) of Edenton; a brother, Melvin Griffin of Florida; eight grandchildren, Bryan, Nick, and Ali Belch, Casey Pertala, and Tracey, Ashley, Alyssa, and Brianna Griffin; and 11 great-grandchildren, Damien, Ethan, Rosa, Olivia, Aaliyah, Allison, Gianna, Jaden, Easton, Chance, and Ashton.
In accordance with his wishes, no services are being planned.
