Richard Lyle “Ricky” Umphlett, 60, of 434 Cisco Road, Tyner, NC, died Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in his home.
Mr. Umphlett was born in Chowan County on September 5, 1959 and was the son of the late William Aaron Umphlett, Sr. and Kathryn Louise Mizelle Umphlett. Through the years he had worked in construction, and also as painter with both Hal Swain and Charles Morgan, but is perhaps best known as operating his own lawnmower and small engine repair business. He attended Christ Sanctified Holy Church.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Tammy Jo White Umphlett; three sisters, Joyce Harrell of Spartanburg, SC, Diana Hassell of Columbia, and Betty Lou Gray of Plymouth; two brothers, William Aaron Umphlett, Jr. of Edenton and Thomas Preston Umphlett of Claxton, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. A private burial will follow in the Chappell Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the home of in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Clark White, 1303 Belvidere Road, in the Belvidere community of Perquimans County.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any contributions in his memory be given to help with the offset of medical and final expenses.
