Richard Flynn Surratt, 68, formerly of Johnston Street, died Thursday, April 21, 2022 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.
Flynn was born in Salisbury, NC on December 14, 1953 and was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Herlocker Surratt.
A retired insurance underwriter for the former Gateway Bank in Hertford, he will be remembered by many for his years as a reporter with The Chowan Herald, his time as an announcer on Radio WZBO in Edenton, his commentary at Edenton’s annual Peanut Festivals and Christmas Parades, and his calls of play at the Edenton Aces football games.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel Owen Surratt of Edenton and Nathaniel Earl Surratt of Raleigh, and their mother, Earline White Surratt, also of Edenton. Other family include three sisters, Janice Surratt Sandberg (Gary) of Tacoma, WA, Susan Surratt Smith (Carey) of Emerald Isle, and Kay Surratt Stokes (Charley) of Puyallup, WA; and two brothers, Doug Surratt (Edie) of Davidson and Tim Surratt (Dawn) of Henderson.
A time of gathering and remembering for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tri-County Animal Shelter, 138 Icaria Road, Tyner, NC 27980.
