Richard D. Smith, a devoted husband, father, pepere, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away suddenly, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and family dedication.
Rick, as he was known to those close to him, was a proud veteran who served honorably in the United States Air Force for twenty-one years, retiring with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant.
Throughout his life, Rick was a world traveler, whose work took him to many corners of the globe including Iraq during Desert Storm, and Afghanistan. Most recently, he and his wife of twenty-four years, Donna Lynn Smith, were living their dream of exploring the country in their camper, with plans for future adventures that sadly will remain unfulfilled.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Lynn Smith, his cherished children: Peter Cianfrocco and his partner, Amanda Jones, Nicholas Smith and his wife, Kelly, and Samantha Cianfrocco and her fiancé, Chris Hopkins. His greatest joy was his two grandchildren, Harper and Montgomery, who were the loves of his life.
He is also survived by his parents, David and Joan Smith, and his siblings, Jennifer Rombalski and her husband, Chad, and Michael Smith and his wife, Mary Kate. Rick's large and loving extended family includes aunts, uncles, cousins and many cherished nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his presence, his laughter, and the warmth he brought to their lives.
Rick's life was characterized by service, both to his country and to his family. His military career was a source of pride, and his commitment to his loved ones was unwavering. He was a man who valued family, adventure, and creating memories with those he held dear.
A military service honoring Rick was held in North Carolina on December 18, 2024. In addition, a celebration of Rick's life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, in Keywood Manor Community Center (85 Pools Crossing Rd, Alfred, Maine).
Rick will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew and loved him.
