Richard Arden Medford

   Richard Arden "Dick" Medford, 86, of Hertford, NC, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Medford was born in Manhattan, NY on July 21, 1935, and was the son of the late Randolph Monteith Medford and Evelyn Lewis Medford. Retired from Verizon, he had been employed with the company for a total of 44 years through its transitions when it was previously Western Electric and Lucent Technologies. An Army veteran, he was a proud supporter of his country and its flag. Upon his move to Hertford and Albemarle Plantation, he learned to play golf and joined the carving club where he honed his skills until the very end. Dick enjoyed decorating his golf cart for Veterans Day and Christmas parades. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

   Surviving is his wife, Carole Bottenus Medford; a daughter, Theresa Novellano (husband, Peter) of Hauppauge, NY; a son, John Medford of Westbury, NY; a step-son, Richard Esposito (wife, Debbie) of Plymouth, NH; a brother, Chris Medford (wife, Barbara) of Naples, FL; a granddaughter, Amy Salat, five grandsons, John and Adam Medford, and P.J., Marc, and Thomas Novellano, and a great-grandchild due to be born in April.

   A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and will be conducted by The Rev. Robert Beauchamp. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and again in the parish hall of the church on Friday following the service.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made either to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 125, Hertford, NC 27944, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
