Regina Paige Hurdle, 71, of NC 32 North, died Friday, November 8, 2024, in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Edenton.
Miss Hurdle was born in Chowan County on November 2, 1953, and was the daughter of the late Abram Lindsey Hurdle, Sr. and Janet Wiley Hurdle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, A.L. Hurdle, Jr., and by a nephew, Nicholas Hurdle.
A retired Special Education teacher, she had taught in North Carolina and Virginia Public Schools for 40 years. She was particularly proud that she had worked in all six of the Gates County schools, including Sunbury Elementary School. Through her career in Special Education, she was inspired to promote inclusion for people with special needs in the schools and community, thus she worked for many years in the Gates County Special Olympics as a volunteer, a coach, and as director.
A longtime and faithful member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, she was an active in its Women’s Missionary Union.
Surviving are two sisters, Betty Joyner of Ahoskie and Gail Hawkins (husband, Mike) of Hobbsville; her sister-in-law, Ginny Hurdle of Corapeake; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Joyner, Amy Hawkins (husband, Chris), David Joyner (wife, Kelly), Joseph Hurdle (wife, Christina), Alex Hurdle (wife, Alex), Ben Hawkins, and Bryce Hawkins; great-nieces and great-nephews, Zoe and Jackson Hawkins, Katie Grace and Charlotte Joyner, and Adam, Alivia, Andrew, and Bram Hurdle; and many extended members of both the Hurdle and Wiley families.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the social hall immediately following the service.
