Raymond Frederick Wise, Sr.

Raymond Frederick Wise, Sr., 77, of 980 Snug Harbor Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 in his home where he was being cared for by family. Mr. Wise was born in Rockaway Beach, NY on September 25, 1943, and was the son of the late Joseph John Wise, Jr. and Alice Shirley Proffitt Wise. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Charlotte Clements "Millie" Wise, sisters, Sarah Wise and Shirley Joan Wise, and by a brother, William Dennis Wise. A US Navy veteran having served in the Vietnam War, he retired from civil service with the Department of the Navy having been employed with the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Abundant Hope Baptist Church in Gates, the William Paul Stallings Post 126 of the American Legion in Hertford, and was a lifetime member of American Disabled Veterans. Surviving are his two daughters, Charlotte Plows (husband, Steve) of Richfield Springs, NY and Dawn Wise of Chicago, IL; two sons, Ray Wise, Jr. (wife, Peige) of Henderson, NV and Mike Wise, Sr. (wife, Diane) of Hertford; a brother, Joseph John Wise, III (wife, Kathleen) of Lynchburg, VA; a sister-in-law, Linda Wise of Windsor, CT; six grandchildren, Ashley Pahr (husband, Joshua), Kayla Collins (husband, Daniel), Mike Wise, Jr. (wife, Bailey), Courtney Wise, Samantha Calkins, and Christopher Calkins; two great-granddaughters, Aubree and Lyela; as well as 20 nieces and nephews, and 16 great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 15, at 1:30 p.m. in Abundant Hope Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Walter Black.
