Ray Smith

   Kermit Ray Smith, 79, of 729 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mr. Smith was born in Bertie County on January 24, 1939, and was the son of the late Kermit William Smith and Josephine Baker Smith Newbern. He was retired from Planters Peanuts in Suffolk, VA.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Ray “Buster” Smith.

   Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Eva Mae Dail Smith; a daughter, Donna Smith Morris (Kenneth) of Aulander; three brothers, Rodney Smith (Barbara) and Douglas Smith (Aleta), all of Tyner, and Jimmy Tracy Smith (Judy) of Kill Devil Hills; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Smith Family Cemetery near the home, and will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Byrum. Friends may join the family at his brother Rodney’s home, 739 Happy Home Road.
