Waverly Ray Rountree, 70, of 92 Barfield Road, Eure, NC, died Sunday, August 15, 2021, at his home where he was cared for by his family.
Ray was born in Gates County on August 16, 1950, and was the son of the late Waverly S. and Myrtie Leigh Williams Rountree. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Doris Rountree.
Retired from the paper finishing department of International Paper in Franklin, VA (formerly Union Camp), where he worked for 41 years, he was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, Ray’s Beach Fishing Club, and particularly found enjoyment in both full size and Mini-Rod Tractor pulls.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 51 years, Addie Lassiter Rountree; a daughter, Leanne Thompson (Kevin) of Corapeake, a son, Tracy Rountree of Eure; two sisters, Cleo Craddock and Diane Hendrix, and a brother, Leon Rountree, all of Eure; and two grandchildren, Trevor Thompson (Kristen, and their daughter, Braeleigh, due to be born in December), and Taylor Thompson, all of Corapeake.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church and will be conducted by his former pastor, The Rev. Roger Kiker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the residence.
