Harrell Randolph Lowe, Sr., 86, of 32 Lowe Road, Gatesville, NC, died Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Born in Gates County on September 29, 1935, he was the son of the late Richard B. and Dora Piland Lowe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Myrna Johnson Lowe; his son, Alan W. Lowe; and by a sister, Nancy Wilkins.
Retired from Union Camp Corporation in Franklin, for many years he also tended the family farm where he enjoyed sharing the labor with his boys and grandchildren. A member of Gatesville Baptist Church where he had served on the Board of Deacons, he also enjoyed membership in the Gatesville Hunt Club, and both the Ray’s Beach and Nixon’s Ditch Fishing Clubs. Many area youth (and their parents), will remember his many years of coaching Little League Baseball at the Eason’s Crossroads Ballpark Association.
Surviving are two sons, Richard L. Lowe (Annette) and H. Randolph Lowe, Jr. (Beth); his daughter-in-law, Sherl Lowe; three sisters, Lois Hatfield, Doris Umphlett, and Alice Perry; a brother, Alton Lowe; six grandchildren, Crystal Ashley (Grant), Matt Lowe (Stephani), Brittney Stevens (Alex), Hunt Lowe (Lauren), Kyle Lowe, and Katelyn Lowe; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Ashley, McKinley Stevens, Easton Lowe, and Luke Lowe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Tom Holland. The burial will be private in the Town of Gatesville Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service, or all other time at his residence.
