Rachel Lorene Rountree

   Rachel Lorene Rountree, 88, of 400 Melrose Court, Suffolk, VA, died Friday, February 19, 2021 in her home.

   Mrs. Rountree was born in Gates County, NC on October 27, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Addie Frank Speight Rountree and John Byrum Rountree, Sr. Retired from Central Fidelity Bank (now Wells Fargo), she was a life-long member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church in Gates County, but in recent years had attended Wilroy Baptist Church where she was active in its Sunday School and the Pam Grumbles Ladies Circle.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Joyce Marie Rountree; and by her brothers, John Byrum “J.B.” Rountree, Jr., and Frank Speight Rountree.

   Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Rountree Williams (husband, Ray), and Jan Rountree, all of Suffolk; two sisters, Mary Brinkley of Suffolk and Ruthellen VanBlon of Charlotte, NC; her grandson, John Williams of Kitty Hawk, NC; and her great-granddaughter, Abigail Williams of Virginia Beach.

   In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned. She will be laid to rest in the Speight-Morris Family Cemetery near her mother and other family members.

   In lieu of any flowers, the family suggests that for those who wish to remember her, contributions may be made to Middle Swamp Baptist Church, in care of M.Q. Umphlett, 275 Middle Swamp Road, Gates, NC 27937.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Visiting Physicians Association, and to Grace Hospice, for the care and comfort given their loved one during her period of declining health.
