Paul O. Sausser

God called Paul O. Sausser to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, after a five-year cancer journey.

From a young age, Paul knew he wanted to be a pastor. After graduating from Rochester High School (MI) in 1978, he went on to Calvin University and Calvin Seminary before earning his Doctorate in Ministry at Bethel College. He was a beloved pastor who pastored congregations in Minnesota and Michigan. Known for his kindness and humility, Paul modeled Christ with his compassionate servant’s heart. He was a great man of faith in Jesus Christ whose life was an example of gentle love that will continue to bless the lives of those who knew him. Paul and his wife, Renae, enjoyed traveling, biking, hiking God’s beautiful world, and discovering new places. Paul was on the founding board of Family Network of Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathy Sausser; sister, Patty DeHaas; niece, Ann DeHaas; and nephew, Stephen DeHaas.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Renae; brother, Robert and Linda Sausser and their family: Jonathan and Kristin Sausser (Caleb, Ava, Mya), Joseph Sausser and Katelyn Achatz, Jason and Lindsey Groves Sausser(Theadosia); brother-in-law, Ron DeHaas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Nelly Boerema and their family: Galen and Livija Boerema (Juliana, Katherine, Elena, Meredith, Geneva), Isaac and Leah Boerema (Gerrit, Caleb), Marike and Andrew Mericle (Judah, Seember, Cedric, Reuben), Jurgen Boerema, Kiam and Courtney Boerema (Annika, Addyson, Avary); Dennis Boerema; Barb and Dan Sanders and their family: Jeremy Sanders, David and Karen Sanders Perez (Robert), Matthew Sanders, Kristin and David Anderson (Alida, David, Zenith), Jared and Kate Sanders (Viana, Maisie, Nolan), Mark and Kalen Sanders (Eleanor, Henry, Merritt). Paul and Renae found great joy in nurturing relationships with their nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Christ as the Good Shepherd is a foundational theme of Scripture and foundational to Paul’s ministry. Paul enjoyed being a shepherd to his congregations and community. Paul has finished the ministry he received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Well done, good and faithful servant! Welcome home! (Acts 20:24, Matthew 25:23).
