Pamela Sue Place, 73, of 738 Colonial Beach Road, Columbia, NC, died Monday, January 10, 2022 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville.
Pam was born on November 11, 1948 in Lima, Ohio, and was the daughter of Bernice Truesdale Place of Creswell and the late Stanley Bryan Place.
A retired teacher, she spent 35 years in education, teaching at both Pines Elementary School in Plymouth and Creswell Elementary School in Creswell. While at Creswell, she received the school’s Teacher of the Year Award. In earlier years, she raised her family in the fellowship of Scuppernong Church of Christ.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Reneé Spear Jean-Louis (husband, Kerby) of Winterville; a son, Ryan Spear of Columbia; a sister, Janet Place (husband, Lee Siler) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a brother, Neal Place (wife, Donna) of Creswell; a grandson, Trey Jean-Louis of Winterville; and her longtime friend and companion, Tim Ambrose of Columbia.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Don Phelps. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.
In lieu of cut flowers, plants or dish gardens will be accepted, or contributions in her memory may be made to any local animal shelter where the funds may be used to adopt pets to loving families.
