Ora Lee Byrum

 Ora Lee Byrum, 102, of 351 Hobbsville Road, Hobbsville, NC, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, in her home where she had lived for the last several years with her daughter and her family.

 Mrs. Byrum was born in Chowan County on April 24, 1922, and was the last surviving child born to the late James Edward and Esther Virginia Jordan Byrum. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary, Ann, Ruby, and Lillian; three brothers, Jimmy, Titus, and Bobby; her daughter; Barbara Wall; and a great-grandson, Josh.

 A former resident of Edenton, she and her longtime companion, Les Jones, operated a grocery and convenience store between Edenton and the Yeopim community. Later after moving to her daughter’s, she was a faithful member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, and in more recent years enjoyed the companionship of her “little partner”, great-great-granddaughter Alayna.

 Surviving is her daughter, Faye Hollowell (husband, Wade) of Hobbsville; her son-in-law, Stanley Wall of Aulander; three grandchildren, Kenny Hollowell, Elaine Pool (husband, David), and Karen Edwards (husband, Mike); eight great-grandchildren, Tela, John, Courtney, Kristen, Chris, David, Kaitlyn, and Beth; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

 A memorial service will be held Monday, September 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Tim Dannelly. The private burial will precede the service and will take place earlier in the day.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of Hobbsville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 15, Hobbsville, NC 27946.
