Nellie Marie “Nell” Eason, 77, of Sunbury, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in her home.
Miss Eason was born in Suffolk, VA on October 10, 1944, and was the daughter of the late William Austin and Alice Riddick Eason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Eason.
A graduate of Gates County High School, she was an active member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church. Through the years she enjoyed participating in The Special Olympics, and was affectionately known for her love of doing her “hand works.”
Surviving are her two sisters, Beryl Hale (husband, Dana) and Florence Byrd (husband, Billy, deceased), both of Suffolk; five nieces, Annette (husband, Keith), Sherry, Lisa (husband, Terry), Danita (husband, Alan), and Denise (husband, Michael); two nephews, Nelson (wife, Shawn) and Brian (wife, Amber); and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church, and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Gary Nistler. A private burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to her church family, whom she dearly loved, especially to Teri Campbell, Brenda Sawyer, Janie Perry, Lawrence and Peggy Riddick, and Katherine Lewis, and to her beloved niece and her husband, Lisa and Terry Johnson, for all the love, care, and assistance provided to Nell through the years.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made either to Sandy Cross Baptist Church, in care of Barbara Jones, 498 Acorn Hill Road, Sunbury, NC 27979, or to Camp Cale, 377 Camp Cale Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
