Ann Patricia Curran "Nancy" Ryan, 87, of Merry Hill, NC, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.
Mrs. Ryan was born in New York City, NY on December 12, 1935, and was the daughter of the late John Curran and Rose Mary Flood Curran. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Francis Ryan; daughters, Susan Froehlich and Erin Rose Ryan; two sisters, Rosemarie Doherty and Kathleen Doherty; and by a brother, John Curran.
Retired as an Executive Assistant with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), she was very proud to have been one of the first women to be trained by Wang to teach her company to use their computers, and to have received the NCTM Chairman’s Recognition Award.
A member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach, FL, she had served with its Women’s Guild, the Bereavement Ministry, Bible Study Group, and the Angel Tree, and also enjoyed her time as a volunteer with St. Michael’s Gift Shop and Interfaith Dinner Network. Other enjoyments included membership in the Amelia Island Garden Club, Amelia Park Book Club, and the Red Hats Society. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Ninettes Women’s Golf Group at Lake Monticello Golf Country Club.
Surviving are her two daughters, Jaime Kernus (Brad) of Merry Hill and Tracy Sentilles (James) of Salisbury; a son, James Ryan (Tammy) of Leesburg, VA; a son-in-law, Robert Froehlich of Clifton, VA; 12 grandchildren, Kara Lanzillo (Michael), Jenna Kernus, Ryan Kernus (Alecia), Robert James Froehlich (Ashley), Samuel Froehlich, Hayley Rose Brendes (Carl), Kelly Minton (Leighanne), Maxwell Minton, Curran Sentilles, James Sentilles III, John Sentilles, and Sydney Ryan; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Catherine, Leah, Landon, Julia, Ronan, Zack, and Kylie; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church and will be conducted by Father Jairo A. Maldonado-Pacheco. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
