Myrna Marlene Weiske Shafer

   Myrna Marlene Weiske Shafer, 84, of 160 Schooner Landing Drive, Edenton, NC, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

   A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Myrna was born in Kossuth County, IA on July 12, 1935 and raised in Burt, IA along with seven siblings. Her parents, Edwin Richard and Helen Marie Ollum Weiske, three sisters, Luella Bauer, Velma Lavernz, and Judy Stecker, and four brothers, Richard, Harold, Herb, and Dale, all preceded her in death.

   Myrna had a love for music and sang in choral groups and church choirs from childhood to the time when her eyesight faded and she was no longer able to see the music. In 1957, in Sioux Falls, SD, she married her true love and partner for life, Harold (Shaf) Lawrence Shafer. Together they raised their family, while staying active in service to both the community and church. In 1995, Myrna retired with her husband from Pittsburgh, PA to Buxton, NC and in 2003 moved to Edenton.

   Surviving are her husband of nearly 63 years, Shaf; a daughter Shelley Haffner and husband, Rob, of State College, PA; three sons, Kevin Shafer and wife, Lori, of Travelers Rest, SC, Joel Shafer and wife, Mindy, of South Hill, VA, and Tim Shafer, and wife, Tammy, of Windsor; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Haffner, Megan Haffner Ladd, Dylan and Sean Shafer, Chantel Shafer Buck, and Brett Moran; five great-grandchildren, Cora and Garrett Haffner, and Ben, Aria, and Arabella Buck; and many nieces and nephews.

   A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am in Edenton United Methodist Church, and will follow in the church columbarium. Friends may join the family immediately following the service in the church’s social room.
