Miriam Twine Byrum

   Miriam Clair Twine Byrum, 90, of 629 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, in her home.

   Mrs. Byrum was born in Pitt County on January 10, 1928, and was the last surviving of six children born to the late Robert William “Bob” and Mary Eliza Twine. Both her high school and college educations were completed at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA, where her main course of study was music. Later after many years as a homemaker and raising her children, she went back to school at College of The Albemarle in Elizabeth City and received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. A faithful member of Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, for many years she taught Sunday School, worked in the yearly Camp Meeting, was instrumental with her husband, his brothers, and their families in both the building and grounds work of the church, and for over 64 years was the church organist and pianist. Community involvement included many years as a 4-H Leader with the youth.

   In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Carrie Winninger, Theresa Malone, and Eva Dail; brothers, William and Lewis Twine; her husband, Hubert A.J. Byrum; and her son-in-law, Frederick A. Swain, Sr.

   Surviving are her daughter, Charlene Swain of Tyner; four sons, Hubert L. Byrum (Shirley) of Somerville, Texas, Bernard L. Byrum (Judy) and Bobby L. Byrum (Jerry), all of Tyner, and Ronnie L. Byrum, Sr. (Sherry) of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, and will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Byrum. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
