Mike Waterfield

   Michael Ray "Mike" Waterfield, Sr., 67, of 2432 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in his home.

   Mr. Waterfield was born in Norfolk, VA on April 23, 1954, and was the son of the late Elwood, Jr. and Mary Dee Muse Waterfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Whipple, and by a brother, Donnie Waterfield.

  A lifelong commercial fisherman, he had a great love of being outdoors and on the water and pride in continuing the family tradition of commercial fishing. He passed that love of working on the water to each and every one of his children. The areas of the Currituck Sound and Knotts Island were very dear to his heart and he considered those places his home. Other enjoyments included duck hunting in which he had been employed as a guide for the State of Virginia.

   Surviving is his two daughters, Rebecca Waterfield Murray (husband, Chris) and Cynthia Renee Waterfield (fiancé, Steven Hurdle); two sons, Michael Ray Waterfield, Jr. and Vaughney Wayne Waterfield (wife, Heather); his former spouse, friend, and mother of his children, Rita Joyce Waterfield; all of Hertford; a sister, Brenda; three brothers, Keith, Kevin, and Elwood III, all of Virginia Beach, VA; and nine grandchildren who where his pride and joy, Makayla, Lexi, Dallas, Bryce, Logan, Star, Emrey, Axle, and Justice.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Jeremy Pugh. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Sunday.
