Merrill Edward Evans

   Merrill Edward Evans, 85, of 1132 Swamp Road, Hertford, NC, died Monday, November 15, 2021 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

   Mr. Evans was born in Chowan County on April 30, 1936, and was the son of the late Edward Zacharia and Lena Harrell Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Jordan Evans; and by his brother, Lloyd Wayne Evans.

   A retired sales representative with Hoffman Industries in Chesapeake, VA, he was raised in the fellowship of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, and was a member of the Belvidere Ruritan Club.

   Surviving are his children, Sharon Evans Matthews of Hertford, and Dean Edward Evans (wife, Gina) of Florence, SC; four grandchildren, Amy Evans, Alaina Evans, Jordan Matthews, and Shelby Boswell (husband, Bryan); and a great-grandson, Levi Matthews. Also surviving are the extended family members of the Evans and Jordan families, and his many friends and customers he met and made along the way.

   Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private burial will be next to his wife in Cedarwood Cemetery.
